'Purple Rain' Comes Pouring Down In Today's eBay Prop-Watch

In honor of the 25th anniversary of “Purple Rain,” I’m devoting today’s eBay Prop-Watch to some cool items relating to both the movie and the companion record release. As I mentioned on the blog earlier, I’ve never actually gotten around to checking out Prince’s classic movie. There are certainly bigger holes in my film education – would you believe that I only filled “The Godfather Part II” this past weekend? – but “Purple Rain” has been a longtime fixture on my list.

Of course, just because I haven’t seen the movie doesn’t mean I can’t pimp some cool movie-related merchandise. You super-fans who don’t mind spending a bit of cash should check out this auction for an original 1984 movie poster in what looks to be perfect condition. Just know that the investment will run you around $200.

Y'all get a treat today, as I have not one but two more auctions to take a look at. These items are both more affordable and, for the right fan, potentially cooler. What we have are two more vintage "Purple Rain" posters: Japan "day" and "night" versions.

I always get a kick out of foreign movie posters. I was fortunate enough to visit Paris when I was younger and while there I bought myself a poster for "Bram Stoker's Dracula." I didn't even really care for the movie -- "Interview with the Vampire" was my generation's "Twilight" equivalent -- but I was sold by the French-speak scrawled all over it. If you take the same sort of joy in your movie posters, these auctions -- both $34.99 for now -- are pretty damn cool.
